LOPES MENDES
A beautiful beach popular with surfers and hikers, with 3 km of fine white sand and numerous waves
It may seem incongruous to propose a classification of beaches, so different are they in terms of environment, accessibility, form... Yet some are unanimously acclaimed by every tourist magazine on the planet. Lopes Mendes is one such beach. The most popular hike leads to this beach, one of the most beautiful in Brazil. It's 3 km long, with fine white sand that crunches underfoot. Surfers come to Lopes Mendes in search of waves more plentiful than on the protected side of Abraão. The fairly wide, well-maintained path leads through the rainforest and past three successive beaches (Palmas, Mangues and Pouso), with as many opportunities for swimming. It's well worth the effort, after three easy climbs of less than 300 m in altitude. Each pass offers superb views, giving you time to catch your breath and gather your courage! Beach restaurants can be found along the way. From Pouso to Lopes Mendes, it's a 20-minute walk, covering a distance of 1 km. A right fork on the road between Pouso and Lopes Mendes leads to the even more secluded Praia de Santo Antônio.
For the return journey, it's always possible to negotiate with one of the boats waiting by the beach, to make your way back to Abraão effortlessly. It's a 2h30 to 3h walk each way. The last boat back is at around 3pm. Be sure to check the timetable to avoid getting stuck like Robinson on the beach.

La plage de Lopes Mendes, immense, bordée de palmiers, au sable tellement dense qu’il craque sous nos pieds, se mérite : le sentier est fait de pentes raides et de semblables descentes, mais cela vaut le coup.
A pretty walk to a beautiful beach.
