Beautiful church with bell tower, dedicated to the saints of Christ's Passion, featuring a cemetery in its interior patio
Designed for the women of Paraty's aristocracy, this beautiful white church was built in 1800, with a simple façade and a handsome bell tower with weathervane. It was completely rebuilt in 1901. The eponymous Confraternity of Our Lady of Sorrows was founded the same year, and admitted only women, to whom it reserved access to the chapel. The chapel is dedicated to the saints of the Passion of Christ and has a cemetery in its inner courtyard.
