PRAIA DO PONTAL
Lively beach close to the center, with opportunities to walk or roll in the mud during carnival time
People rarely go to Parati to swim on its beaches, but rather to sip a drink, take a walk or roll around in the mud during Carnival, as the "bloco de lama" does. Pontal beach has the advantage of being located close to the center of town, near the canal. It's very lively, with quite a few bars, but that's about it. You can't really swim here. Perhaps it's better to take a stroll as far north as Jabaquara. That said, for those staying downtown, it's a pleasant place to have a drink.
