GALLARDIN PALACE
Large, off-centre baroco-Norman-style establishment with good restaurant, offering all the comforts you could wish for at the right price
The style of Gallardin Palace is reminiscent of Deauville, but with a local touch. This grand Baroco-Norman edifice was built by German colonists working for the Portuguese crown. A little out of the way (6 km from the city center) but surrounded by greenery, this hotel is a good-value option in Petrópolis. It's comfortable (wooded rooms, pool, sauna) and has a good restaurant. From its lake with lighthouse, there's a fine view of the Palacio Quintadinha. Worth knowing.
