Line 1 of the Belo Horizonte metro has been in operation since 1986, serving outlying suburbs of little interest to tourists. From the central station (Estação central), however, it serves the bohemian district of Santa Teresa, home to youth hostels and cool bars.
The planned Line 3 will be really interesting, as it will serve the entire center of BH.
Line 1 currently has 19 stations, from Eldorado to Vilharino. The central section of interest is: Lagoinha - Central (train station) - Santa Ifigenia - Santa Teresa.
