SERRARIA SOUZA PINTO
A handsome building on the Praça da Estação, with metal architecture at the back and a rather neoclassical facade.
This handsome building on Praça da Estação is typical of the industrial style, with metal architecture at the rear of the building and a rather neoclassical facade. Inaugurated in 1912, the Serraria (the sawmill) was a building materials factory to cater for the city's urban growth at the time. Partly destroyed in 1981, it was restored in 1997 and is now part of the Fundação Clóvis Salgado's heritage, along with the Palácio das Artes and the House of Photography. The space is now used as a congress hall.
