The Museo Mineiro boasts three collections that bear witness to the evolution of Minas Gerais culture and art: the collection of 18th- and 19th-century sacred art, the collection of the Minas Public Archives and the collection of the State Pinacoteca. The building, of neoclassical architecture, is the seat of the former Mineiro Senate, now abolished, in a beautiful late 19th-century mansion that is part of the architectural heritage of the city of Belo Horizonte. The permanent exhibition of sacred art is not essential.
