IGREJA NOSSA SENHORA DO CARMO
Church featuring a Rococo Baroque altar with more discreet gilding and a chapel decorated with azulejos.
Built in 1766, this church is one of the last architectural achievements of Manuel Francisco Lisboa, father of the Aleijadinho. The beautiful ceiling studded with gold stars was painted by Manuel da Costa Athaide; the lifelike stone statues are dressed in red and emperruqued. The altar was sculpted by Aleijadinho. The style is rococo baroque, with more discreet gilding. Rare in Minas Gerais, azulejos can be seen in one of the chapels.
