PALÁCIO D'OURO
After many years of work, this magnificent 18th-century architectural ensemble has been opened to the public. The owners have reproduced the casa grande (master's house) and the senzala (slave's house) identically, decorating them with hundreds of 17th- and 18th-century pieces sourced from all over Minas Gerais and beyond. The result is remarkable, plunging us back into the daily life of the period. The reality of a gold-mining and slave-owning society is revealed. You can visit the mines. A little expensive, but fascinating.
