MUSEU CASA DOS CONTOS
Building housing the Centre des études du cycle de l'or, the Musée de la Monnaie and galleries displaying period furniture.
This building, constructed between 1782 and 1787, was used as a gold tax center, a weighing and smelting facility, and later as a prison for Inconfidents. Today, it houses the Centre des études du cycle de l'or and the Musée de la Monnaie, as well as galleries displaying 18th- and 19th-century furniture and objects, and numismatic collections. A basement exhibition shows the horrific conditions under which slaves were held. Instruments of torture, such as chains and cannonballs, are on display.
