This gold mine tells the legend of Ouro Preto, born in the blood and sweat of the slaves who made it rich by extracting the gold from its bowels. It was in these 1,500 metres of narrow, dark galleries that slaves worked to extract the gold from Chico Rei's mine. This Congolese king was deported as a slave and managed to free himself by buying back his freedom, even purchasing the mine for his own account. The visit is aimed at non-claustrophobic sports enthusiasts, as the passages are cramped in the slippery rock.
