This is Mariana's old main street, called rua Direita as in Ouro Preto. Several buildings of historical interest are worth a visit, in what is the oldest architectural ensemble in Minas Gerais. The 19th-century colonial house at number 102 houses the Music Museum. At number 54, the Barão de Pontal mansion stands proudly with its finely chiselled soapstone balconies. The house of symbolist poet Alfonsus de Guimarães, now a small museum, can also be found at number 35.
