Today's Casa da Glória is made up of buildings from different periods and styles. Built between 1775 and 1800, it now houses the Institute of Geosciences (cartography, geography and geology). Manuel Viana, husband of Dona Josefa Maria da Glória, lived in the house until 1813, and named it "Casa da Glória" in homage to his wife. The main architectural interest lies in the photogenic Passadiço da Glória, a passageway linking the two sections above the street, which is the town's emblem.
