IGREJA MATRIZ DE SANTO ANTÔNIO
Church featuring an example of Brazilian Baroque art, preserving a magnificent Portuguese organ dating from 1766, completely renovated.
It is without doubt one of the finest examples of Brazilian Baroque art, painted by Manuel Vitor de Jesus. Built between 1710 and 1732, it features an 18th-century Portuguese organ. The gilded, wood-panelled façade was one of Aleijadinho's last projects in 1810. You can see that Jesus' hair is natural. The magnificent 1766 Portuguese organ has been magnificently renovated (concerts Fridays at 8.30pm). Superb views over the town and Serra São José.
