This curvaceous church is one of the jewels of Minas, featuring circular bell towers and carved soapstone ornaments.

It's the town's postcard. A magnificent work of art, this church was built in 1774. It is remarkable for its stone and woodwork. It is the first work of the Aleijadinho master in curved lines, with its lyre-shaped forecourt surrounded by a marble balustrade. Preceded by a majestic avenue of imperial palms, with circular bell towers and carved soapstone ornaments, the church of São Francisco de Assis is one of the jewels of Minas.
