IGREJA DE SANTA RITA
Church at the top of a small hill, accessible by a stone staircase lined with lawns, shrubs and lampposts.
The most characteristic church in Serro is undoubtedly the Capela de Santa Rita, built in the 18th century atop a small hill. It is reached after climbing an impressive stone staircase lined with lawns, shrubs and lampposts. Its clock tower and polygonal façade make it easily identifiable and quite unique. Other rococo-style churches from this period are nearby: Bom Jesus do Matozinhos and the Matriz N.S da Conceição, with its one-piece cedar altar.
