FÊTE D'IEMANJA
Go there and contact
The festival dedicated to Iemanjà is one of the most popular in Salvador de Bahia and the deity is honored throughout the country.
Iemanjá, goddess of the sea and fertility, is one of the most popular figures of the Candomblé (Afro-Brazilian cult). Her aura goes far beyond the city of Salvador; she is represented all over the country. In Santana, at 4am, the boats are loaded with offerings and gifts (flowers, jewellery, pastries, effigies...). When the boats are full, they leave for the open sea, and return in the early morning, empty, while Iemanjá feasts. When the boats return, the party is in full swing, with the best music groups in town.
