Afro-Brazilian heritage, capoeira is a martial art practiced by slaves who had disguised it as a "dance" to get around the prohibition of the masters. The capoeira school "Mestre Bimba", named after the great master of the same name, is run by Dona Dalva, for the dance part, and Mestre Nenel and is open to visitors. On Tuesday and Friday evenings the players present a show of capoeira regional (faster) maculelê dance and samba. You can take lessons, of course. A must see. The school works with young people in difficulty.
