IGREJA DA GRAÇA
Church of Grace in a charming middle-class neighborhood, housing relics of the Indian Catarina Paraguaçu
In the residential neighborhood of Graça, the Church of Grace (Graça) is one of the very first Catholic places of worship built in Salvador, dating from the 17th century. It contains the relics of the Indian Catarina Paraguaçu, converted to Christianity after her marriage to the Portuguese Diogo Alvares Correia, the Caramuru, and of Julia Fetal, a young woman from Bahia's good society, murdered with a golden bullet by her ex-fiancé! After the visit, a walk is recommended through this charming middle-class neighborhood.
