MUSEU ABELARDO RODRIGUES
Museum featuring an impressive collection of sacred art, with beautiful, diverse works of sacred art, both scholarly and popular
An impressive collection of sacred art from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The rich collector Abelardo Rodrigues, from Pernambuco, built up this collection of more than 800 pieces of sacred art from the Baroque and Neoclassical periods during his lifetime. The State of Bahia acquired this collection in 1973 after a long struggle with the State of origin of Abelardo Rodrigues, a period known under the evocative name of "holy war" between the two powerful north-eastern States. Inaugurated in 1981, this museum presents beautiful and diverse works of sacred art, both scholarly and popular.
