MUSEU AFRO-BRASILEIRO DA UFBA
Afro-Brazilian Museum in the former Jesuit College, with important collections of African and Bahian orixás
The history of Salvador is inseparable from its African roots and its religious syncretism. The Afro-Brazilian Museum contains important collections of orixás from Africa and Bahia. African art, pottery, candomblé ceremonial costumes, icons. The museum is located in the former Jesuit College, built in 1553, where the first school of higher education and the first faculty of medicine in the country were founded (a Memorial da Medicina recalls this medical past).
