Salvador's Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, part of the Universidade Federal da Bahia, is located on the archaeological site of the Jesuit college built in the mid-16th century. It houses the exhibition A primeira Sé do Brasil, built in 1549 by order of Tomé de Souza, as well as fragments and objects collected during excavations in Praça da Sé. Salvador's African origins and cultural diversity are highlighted.
