PRAIA DO RIO VERMELHO
Beach in the Rio Vermelho district, with high waves, used as a harbour for the boats and small craft of the local fishermen
The beach at Rio Vermelho has high waves at high tide. It serves as a port for the boats and small craft of local fishermen. It is from here that the maritime procession in honor of Iemanjá, Queen of the Sea, departs every February 2. This is the beach of the bohemian district of Rio Vermelho, where people flock to the barracks of Cirà to enjoy acarajés. Unfortunately, the waters are polluted and unsuitable for bathing. Only the part of the beach known as the "buracao" (big hole) is safe for bathing.
