PRAÇA TOMÉ DE SOUZA
Square in Salvador's historic center, home to all the public buildings of the nascent Brazilian colony
Praça Tomé de Sousa (known as Praça Municipal) is a square in the historic centre of Salvador that was the administrative foundation of the city. It was here that the first governor of Brazil, Tomé de Sousa, assembled all the public buildings of the nascent Brazilian colony in the 16th century. Today we can see the Palácio Tomé de Sousa (now the seat of the Prefecture), the Palácio Rio Branco (once the seat of the Bahia government), the Salvador City Hall and a statue of the first Brazilian governor. From there, you can access the Elevador Lacerda.
