A large cove in the south of the island, a jaguar den according to legend, now a sought-after spot for its tranquillity
This large cove in the south of the island (west of Ponta de Castelhanos), near the village of São Sebastião, is said to be a jaguar den. Today, however, it's a place much sought-after for its peace and quiet. Unfortunately, we haven't seen these big cats for a very long time. Most people come here to enjoy the beach. The origin of the name is mysterious. It's said to have a cave, where the Jesuits left an image of São Sebastião. Fishing is intense. The reefs are teeming with octopus and lobster.
