Bahia's only church with 2 bells and an wooden pulpit
This church, built from 1730, was in ruins before it was completed. It was the first church dedicated to Our Lady of Pena. Work began again in 1733, on the ruins of the old village church (dating from the 16th century). It was rebuilt and finished in 1773 when the Portuguese Crown incorporated the captaincy of Porto Seguro. It is the only church in Bahia with two bell towers. It still preserves the old wooden pulpit from the 18th century.
