TEATRO JOSÉ DE ALENCAR
Curious Art Deco-style theater offering classical music concerts
This curious Art Deco theatre, like a smaller Musée d'Orsay, with a stone exterior and iron interior, was built in 1910, and reopened in 1991, after a restoration. The José de Alencar Theater is a characteristic example of the eclectic phase of Brazilian architecture, mixing neoclassical lines and art nouveau. The joyful face of Bacchus is sculpted on the top of the façade. Possibility of attending classical music concerts performed by the Eleazar de Carvalho Chamber Orchestra.
