A former penitentiary for almost half a century, now home to numerous craft and souvenir stores
As in Recife and Natal, the city happily chose a new function for its old prison almost half a century ago. In its beautiful pink and yellow walls, whose construction dates back to 1866, the former prison now houses numerous craft and souvenir shops. Next to the bondieuseries, you will appreciate a small mineralogical collection and puppets. Traditional lace, hammocks and North-Eastern santons are available as souvenirs to put in your luggage.
