The museum contains thousands of objects related to the history of Fortaleza and Ceará. Created in 1932, the Museu do Ceará ( Ceará Museum) is the first major museum in Ceará. It is installed in the Palacete Senador Alencar, a beautiful historical building from 1871. Its collection is rich and dedicated to the history of Ceará and Brazil. It is made up of more than seven thousand paintings, furniture, archaeological objects and indigenous artefacts relating to important episodes in the country's history, particularly slavery and the struggle for its abolition.
