IGREJA SÃO BENEDITO
Tuscan-style church with pyramidal towers over 40 m high and a life-size statue of the patron saint
It is a 19th century building and is a National Historic Site. Its consecration took place on June 3, 1886. The church of São Benedito is an imposing building, in the Tuscan style of Italian churches. With pyramidal towers that rise more than forty meters high, strictly following the model of the medieval basilica. A life-size statue of the patron saint is located in its frontispiece, between the zinc bell towers donated by Pope Pius XII. Its doors, by Sebastião Mendes, are made of jacaranda and cedar.
