CAST IRON DO RIBEIRÃO
An astonishing fountain featuring a statue of the god Neptune and 5 orifices sculpted in bronze through which water flows
Built in 1796 on the initiative of the then governor Fernando Antônio de Noronha, this astonishing fountain was built to supply drinking water to the city's inhabitants. The vast frontispiece, covered in gaudy blue paint, is surmounted by a statue of the god Neptune, and in the centre are three windows covered with bars giving access to underground galleries. Five openings sculpted in bronze through which water flows, located near the ground, complete the picture.
