IGREJA DE SANTANA
Neoclassical church with Baroque influences, featuring magnificent Portuguese azulejos in perfect condition
Built in 1790 under the command of Canon João Maria da Leu Costa, the Igreja de Santana displays a neoclassical style with baroque influences. The church was built by order of Canon João Maria da Leu Costa.
It houses the vestments and images of the brotherhood of Senhor Bom Jesus dos Martírios. Nowadays, the church is surrounded by modern buildings and is often overlooked by visitors. A short stopover is nevertheless recommended to admire the magnificent Portuguese azulejos that cover it, in a perfect state of conservation.
