RIO PREGUIÇAS
Motorboat trip on the Rio Preguiças to admire the natural beauty of the area
The navigation on the Rio Preguiças quickly becomes a unique adventure. We will be able to soak up the natural beauty of the places, too often in danger. The adventure is also a human adventure, we will be able to see the communities that live along the different rivers that go to the Atlantic coast. By fast motorboat (no non-polluting boats yet, alas), the group goes up the Rio Preguiças along the Pequenos Lençois Maranhenses to the Atlantic coast.
The banks of the river are revealed in all their splendour: mangroves, aguapés (water plants), buritis (swamp palms), açaizeiros (endemic trees of the Nordeste), coconut trees, and, never far away, herons and kingfishers. The closer we get to the coast, the more the dunes are revealed in small doses.
Stop at Vassouras. Behind the few huts along the river and the small restaurant Tenda dos Macacos, you can go and walk along some dunes and a small lagoon
Stop at Mandacaru, where we climb the 178 steps of the pretty white and black lighthouse of Preguiças which dominates the village to have an unobstructed view on the park. The ocean and the beach of Caburé are visible in front of us.
Caburé. The boat finally arrives at the tiny village of Caburé. The freshwater river borders the village and yet, just behind the sand dune, it is the sea and its miles of deserted beaches. On the beach of Caburé, some small pousadas have opened their doors to allow some to prolong this experience at the end of the world
