Inaugurated in 1956, on the centenary of the death of the heroine Anita Garibaldi, this museum is housed in a 1735 colonial house, one of the oldest in the region. The wife of the revolutionary Guiseppe Garibaldi played a decisive role in the republican revolt of this region of southern Brazil against the Brazilian government during the Guerra dos Farrapos, which led to the creation of the Republican Juliana in Laguna, which later became the República Catharinense Livre e Independente (1839). Anita Garibaldi's house can also be visited.
