Bolivian border town with tea, stores and casinos, similar to Cidad del Este in Foz de Iguaçu
The term Ponta Pora means "Beautiful Place" in Guarani. Before the Paraguayan War, the site of the city was a deserted area in the interior of Paraguay inhabited by tribes of Indians, such as the Nhandevas and the Caiuás, descendants of the Guarani people. This city of 93,000 inhabitants is located at an altitude of 755 meters, 275 km and 3.5 hours of tortuous road from Bonito. Border city of Bolivia, one finds there tea, shops and casinos, similar to the Cidade del Este in Foz de Iguaçu, kinds of local duty free.
