PALACIO LAURO SODRE - MUSEU DO ESTADO DO PARÁ
Home to the State Museum of Pará, with exhibitions and a permanent collection of many historical elements
Inaugurated in 1771 as the seat of government of Pará, it was built with regional and imported materials. It was the scene of great events in regional history, such as the Cabanagem, during which the rebels(cabanos) occupied the palace for a year. Today it houses the State Museum of Pará (MEP) with exhibitions and a permanent collection of many historical elements, mainly photos, paintings and furniture from the period.
