CATEDRAL METROPOLITANA DE MANAUS
New Greek-style church, built from materials imported from Europe, the mother church of the city of Manaus
It was Carmelite missionaries who erected the first fragile temple here in 1695, which was later enlarged before going up in smoke in the fire of 1850. A new church was built immediately afterwards, using materials imported from Europe, mainly from Portugal (such as the six bells, the chapel and the three altars), in a Greek style, which was inaugurated in 1878. It was inaugurated in 1878. It was elevated to the rank of cathedral in 1946 and is the mother church of the city.
