PALÁCIO RIO NEGRO
It was a German, Waldemar Scholz, who, after having made his fortune through the rubber trade, had this yellow and white building built at the beginning of the 20th century, first known as Palacete Scholz. Bought in 1917 by the Amazonas government to serve as its headquarters, it was renamed Palácio Rio Negro the following year, and then converted into a cultural centre in 1997, where classical music recitals and temporary exhibitions are now given. The period furniture has been preserved as well as some bronze sculptures.
