SIDI ABDUL WAHAB MOSQUE
Go there and contact
This tiny mosque situated on the edge of the old town, facing the port and the arc of Marc Aurèle, presents an architecture quite different from the other mosques of the old town. This small building with its simplicity has a tiny minaret and its unique green dome, a prayer room where two columns of marble support vaulted ceilings. It dates from the th century and then served as a ribat (typically fortified Muslim building with both a Religious Function and a Military Function, focusing here on dangers from the sea). It was built under the influence of a devout and revered man, Sidi Abdul Wahab, whose tomb lies in one of the parts of the mosque. On the day of Mouled in Nabi (day of birth of the Prophet Mahommed), this mosque is an important step in the processions of Sufi zawiyas.
