FORMER CONSULATE OF ENGLAND
He was originally the home of Ahmed Pasha Qaramanli at the end of his founding reign, as recalled by a plaque in English. The latter also denounced the colonialist aims of European scientific missions sent to Africa at a time when the building served as a consulate of the English, from the second half of the eighteenth century until 1940. This former Ottoman residence has a beautiful open courtyard, in which the consul, who is passionate about riding, had set up a stable. The entrance was a waiting room for visitors and the entire building was richly decorated with sculpted stucco. The large staircase on the 2nd floor is surprising for a Muslim architecture house. In the 1970 s, shopping shops took place in the building. Now there are the rooms of a public library (social sciences and hard sciences) that are very provided where students come to work. She has many books in English and some books and novels in French.
