OLD TOWN SOUKS

Included in the perimeter between the streets of El-Attara Souk and the El-Rabea Souk and the rue du Souk El-Mushir, covered the dates back to the Ottoman era. The parts where the traditional clothes are sold are calm; those in which spices, beans, lentils, carcadé and chamomile are sold, are more animated, full of scents and prices thrown at the auction.
According to the geography of the sellers of the Souk, the El-Lafa Souk is one set, while the El-Rabea Couvert Souk includes El-Kutub Souk («books», where traditional clothing is now sold), the El-Kawia Souk, El-Kabir (Grand Souk) and Le-En-Namla («des fourmis»). The El-Lafa Souk (open from a. m. to p. m.) presents beautiful vaults made of bricks. In this perimeter, we sell traditional footwear, clothing and fabrics.
Just behind the old town door, Bab el-Menshia is the Sanaya el-Mahalia souk (open from to) where Bedouin carpets and Misratha are sold, jewelry and souvenirs for tourists. Ed Ed-Dahab (gold souk, open from a. m. to p. m. and p. m. to p. m.) is located on two floors to the Bab el-Houriya door. It is a more modern souk where the many shops sell ribaak, as they are named in Tripoli: they are large gold collars or big ronds argent, which make sumptuous wedding gifts, they cost between 300 and 1 000 dinars! You can go to the Bab el-Houriya souk to see the old Mariotti, a circular form, built by the Italians and now invaded by the shops. There is a boutique of traditional musical instruments (percussion such as Tarhuna derbouka, bendir, etc.). You can even take the walk to the Couvert covered Souk, between My'mun and Rachid Street. It is a food shop (fish, vegetables, meat), but there is a store of animals of all kinds (turtles, snakes, etc.). We also sell some crêpes called roubsa roubsa, delicious if you add honey!
