PARC NATUREL RÉGIONAL DES VOLCANS D'AUVERGNE (AUVERGNE VOLCANOES REGIONAL NATURE PARK)
A remarkable volcano nature park with singular landscapes, an immense territory with a fascinating geological history.
The Parc naturel régional des Volcans d'Auvergne, the largest in France, is an immense territory with a fascinating geological history. Straddling two départements, Puy-de-Dôme and Cantal, it comprises five natural regions with unique landscapes: the Artense granite plateau, Cézallier, Monts du Cantal, Monts Dômes and Monts Dore. Discover the Chaîne des Puys and the Limagne fault, a unique geological ensemble listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its most emblematic site is the Puy de Dôme. The summit can be reached on foot, via the muleteers' or goats' paths, or by taking the Panoramique des Dômes, the cogwheel train that takes you there in comfort. Also not to be missed is the Vulcania park, where you can learn all there is to know about volcanism in a fun and immersive way. The region also offers a wealth of natural, heritage, craft and gastronomic treasures. Lakes, forests, rivers, medieval villages and terroir await those who get off the beaten track and discover the region and its inhabitants. For over 45 years, the park has been preserving and promoting this natural and cultural heritage, with a view to local development.
