GHARYAN POTTERY
Go there and contact
The large stalls of potters of Gharyan are located after the exit of the city in the lower plain below, at the beginning of Tripoli road at the level of the village of Bughilan. Libya has not made itself famous for its craft, but the pottery of Gharyan is one of the exceptions. The composition of the region is open to pottery and Gharyan is known throughout Libya for the talent of its potters. If you cross the horns of pottery on the roads of the rest of the country, be sure they come from there. Bright in a thousand colours, the stalls crushed under jars, pitchers and dishes, all made and painted finely by hand. Some, green and yellow, remember the Tunisian pottery. It is no coincidence that Gharyan pottery is mainly a pottery of Maghreb inspiration. Indeed, many Libyan potters studied crafts on the Tunisian island of Djerba. Moreover, many craftsmen employed by Gharyan potters are Maghreb, mainly Algerian and Tunisian, while many turners are of Egyptian origin. By asking, you can go to the pottery workshops, at the rear of the outdoor stands.
The prices of the pottery of Gharyan are very affordable, so do not hesitate.
