AKAKUS HOUSE
Approximately 100 m on a street east of the Italian lighthouse. It is a th century mansion renovated by artist Ali Wakwak, a sculptor on olive and palm wood. The pieces are divided around two inner courtyards. Ali Wakwak transformed seven of the twenty-two pieces of this residence into a small museum. This can be seen from the th-century reconstructions, photos of Italian Benghazi and objects dating from the Second World War. At the bottom of the second court, the artist sells his very numerous and original sculptures on branches of palm trees representing women and men in traditional clothes, intensely coloured. Prices are very reasonable (from 5 to 20 DL).
