The agora was both a place of worship and a civic centre. In his odes, the poet Pindar, invited to Cyrene by King Arcésilas IV to celebrate a victory at the 462 Pythiques Games, situated on the agora the tomb of Battos the founder, first king of Cyrene; it is assumed to be in the gallery is the agora.
The large dallée square of the agora is bounded by galleries on three sides. On the west of the agora the bust of a Victory on the bow of a ship afloat: it is a grand voto (end of the Hellenistic period) celebrating a naval victory. In the east of the square, a circular monument, probably the shrine of Demeter - goddess of Fertility - and that of daughter Persephone, to which two busts of women correspond. Three imposing marble altars on the agora (two altars aligned to the south center of the square, one in the north) were used for the sacrifices of the horse.
On the other side of the right Street go down the main steps of the capitol stairs. The capitol was restored by Hadrian after the Jewish revolt. Follow the right road to the acropolis, which looks at the valley and the sea. This area has been searched. At the end of the cliff that dominates the foundations of the acropolis, there is a small path oriented towards the west that leads to the hill to the bottom of the site.
