THE MUSEUM OF DERNA

It was created by a local association of ecological, cultural and historical heritage enthusiasts of Derna and the region, called Hela Scientific Community - Tel (081) 623 932 - and founded in 1975. He is headed by Hajj Mohamed (Hajj means «the pilgrimage of Mecca»). Hajj Mohamed speaks English, and if he is there, he may guide you a little. The museum gathers in its many pieces of regional heritage objects: slug agricultural and stool tools, fishing nets, household utensils, reconstitution of an ancient house, photographs of the inhabitants of the city and members of the association leading archaeological expeditions in the cave of Haua Fteah near Soussa, photographs and weapons of the fight against the Italians… You will also see photographs of the four great salty lakes of Jarboub (each one 800 ha), where Hajj Mohamed introduced fish to organize fishing parts!
