As its name suggests, this museum traces the history of the city of Ulaanbaatar from 1639 to the present day. Particularly noteworthy is a large painting from the early 20th century offering a broad panorama of the capital. It's a good idea to indulge in a guessing game as you try to recognize the monuments, such as the Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan. The maps and photos are particularly interesting. As the museum is small, half an hour is enough to visit it.
