In the Khiidiin Saridag mountains lie the ruins of a 17th-century monastic complex. You can explore the remains of this monastery, which signalled the nearby presence of Ikh Khuree (the future Urga, or Ulaanbaatar) from 1645 to 1687. The site was discovered by Russians in the early 20th century. In 1915, they organized an expedition to visit the ruins, but no archaeological digs were ever carried out. Since 2010, the site has been regularly excavated and studied by a team of archaeologists.
