West of Mörön, in the sum (or county) of Tsagaan Uul, live around 7,000 members of the Khotgoid ethnic group, the largest sub-group of the Mongolian Khalkhas. They have settled mainly in the north-western part of the country since the 16th century. On the banks of the Avdrant mountain and the Tes river, natural wonders of the district that form a pretty valley, you can see ancient monuments covered with Turkish inscriptions. These can be dated to the late 8th and early 9th centuries.
