The Dayan Derkhii cave has long been a place of pilgrimage for Mongols, who came here to venerate a deified shaman. According to legend, this shaman, considered the father of shamanistic initiation rites, became the spirit of the surrounding mountains. The cave, some 30 metres long, is divided into a maze of secondary chambers, one of which contains a mineral spring. It is located on the east bank of the Tsagaan Uur River. It is one of Mongolia's most impressive caves.
